‘I’m seeking a second term in office not for personal gain but out of will to serve the people’ – President Buhari.

President Buhari today in Daura, Katsina State, said the driving force for seeking public office should be to serve the people, and see their lives improved, not for frivolity or personal ambition.

Speaking at the All Progressives Party’s (APC) Ward Congress held at Bayagida Model Primary School, President Buhari said the passion to serve and see real changes in the lives of Nigerians informed his choice to join partisan politics in the first place, and inspired him to contest elections in 2003, 2007, 2011 and 2015.

The President said that his decision to seek a second term in office was borne out of a deep passion to serve Nigerians, and not for personal gains. President Buhari noted that his administration had already started the process of ensuring fairness, justice and equity, in spite of challenges, and would work hard to consolidate on the gains.

“I am not in politics for fun, frivolity or to amass wealth, I have always been driven by a deep sense of commitment to make a difference to the lives of our people. After my retirement from the army, or forceful retirement, I sat back and watched as events unfolded on the political turf, and realised the country needed an intervention for fairness, justice and inclusion of Nigerians in the issues that affect their lives,’’ he said.

The President called for patience, maturity and orderliness as the 2019 elections’ calendar begins to unfold, urging political parties, candidates and the electorate to put the country first and always remember that victory ultimately belongs to God.

“After going to the court so many times to challenge results of elections in 2003, 2007 and 2011, and going up to the Supreme Court, I concluded that ultimately it is God who determines who will win elections, and in 2015 I got here,’’ he added.

In his remarks, the Katsina State Governor, Alhaji Aminu Masari, said the process of electing the leaders of the party at the ward level was hitch-free, orderly and based on the constitution of the APC.

“What we have here are our leaders that were chosen based on consensus and we are happy that it reflects the will of the people and the APC constitution. We followed the process to also ensure that there is affirmation,’’ he said.

The Chairman of the Organising Committee for the Ward Congress, who is also the Commissioner of Justice and Attorney General, Ahmad Usman El-Marzuq urged the party leaders to remain loyal and live up to expectations.

“Using a minor as a trap to gather evidence is a criminal offence” – Actor, Yomi Fabiyi

Published

on

Nollywood actor, Yomi Fabiyi has vehemently stated that just as molesting a minor is a criminal offense, so does it apply to using a minor as a trap to gather evidence for one’s claim.

This is coming after the actor defended Baba Ijesha and requested solid proof to show that he molested the 14-year-old girl as he was accused of.

Upon the release of the CCTV footage which has gone viral on the social media space, the actor has dragged both the alleged molester and people who used the minor as a medium to gather proof as defaulters of the law, who ought to face the wrath of the law accordingly.

Sharing the CCTV footage, he wrote:

“IT IS CRIMINAL TO MOLEST A MINOR or USE A MINOR AS A TRAP TO GATHER EVIDENCE.

It is disturbing and unfortunate viewing the images of the released CCTV footage of a minor been sexually abused by a senior colleague, Mr. Lanre Omiyinka a.k.a Baba Ijesha.

There is no excuse for this act. I condemn this act, it is embarrassing and disappointing.

I have carefully wait for reliable options before jumping to a conclusion as done in a civilized society, a stance a handful misconstrued as supporting the suspect, it is a shame a handful in Nigeria still engage in social media recklessness in the name of the social media age.

NOWHERE HAVE I SUPPORTED OR CONDONE SUCH, someone just places the idea and many without caution jumped on it. If you are not enlightened, SEEK KNOWLEDGE.

The only person free from arrest and prosecution is the young lady. Several red lines were crossed, IGNORANCE is never an excuse. The key question every honest person should be asking is, “if the girl was your child, can you make her go through such trauma again in the name of gathering evidence?

Where are the social services and domestic violence units in Lagos State? Shelve press release and sentiments, swing into action.

The law is sacrosanct and we all can agree a lot more needs to be done TO PROTECT CHILDREN IN NIGERIA. I am sad, we have failed many innocent children and it is time we rise to this challenge, THE WORLD IS WATCHING.

Every Nigerian who honestly feels for the poor girl should take to the street in a peaceful protest, demand arrest of all connected to this ugly image, it is a cause worth risking everything for, do it for humanity and every innocent child.

However, sentiment should never be an excuse to abuse the rights of every suspect or persons connected, that is the only way to achieve peace, fairness, justice, and development. Thanks to the Lagos Police Commissioner and officers for their meticulous investigation and efforts so far. A society patient to balance a story seldom gets misled or stands with lies. The media are doing a good job too. We want a safer Nigeria for every child.

Thank you

Yomi Fabiyi
Actor/Human Rights Ambassador”
