How Brazil is leading the way in global beauty trends

brazil-is-leading-the-way-in-global-beauty-trends

My last stop in South America is Rio de Janeiro, a hotbed of beauty innovation. The gals (and guys) here take their looks more than seriously, and the Brazilian beauty fanatics are a driving force behind global product and treatment trends. As the third biggest beauty market in the world after the USA and Japan, they spend 11 times more of their annual income on beauty products than UK women and for their dollars they demand results. Subsequently, many breakthrough beauty techniques have been developed here in Brazil – some of which you may love already, and others you need to know about…

Brazilian wax Up there with Gisele Bundchen, this is one of Brazil’s biggest beauty exports! In many populated parts the climate is generally tropical and people have an outdoor lifestyle. The famously sexy nation go to the beach to watch and be watched, and their staple uniform for this activity is the ‘dental-floss bikini’, a skimpy bra and thong that leaves little to the imagination, hence why the Brazilian bikini wax was born. Apparently the down-there-hairstyle, which borders the thong boundaries, was trending as early as 1500 AD! But it wasn’t until 1987 when seven Brazilian sisters opened a waxing salon in Manhattan that it went global. And the rest, of course, is history…

Brazilian tan Life’s a beach for many residents of Brazil and the sun worshippers have tans of gold. Their complexions are so glowingly gorgeous that the Brazilian tan has become a hot trend, emulated on many catwalks and by self-tan brands worldwide. Though theirs are the real deal, they are still sunscreen-savvy and spend big bucks buying the best brands which are applied with serious attention to detail on the beach (of course!). After the summer season I hear it’s common practice to help repair any visible sun damage with dermatological facial peels.

Brazilian beauty juices Juices, or ‘sucos’ as they’re known, are HUGE in Brazil. This year hoards of celebs on both sides of the globe have been boosting their beauty from the inside, sipping super juices in place of their daily Starbucks, but this has been the trend for Rio residents for years. The health conscious locals harness the beautifying benefits of antioxidant tropical treats native to the country, from acerola to graviola fruits. The ‘it’ order at the many juice bars here is the frozen pulp of the deep purple berry acai, native to Brazil but known for its superfood status worldwide.

Brazilian Butt Lift The buffed Brazilian beach bums can leave you feeling flat as a pancake. They’re super pert and perfectly proportioned, but whilst they can thank genetics for their blessed behinds they don’t rest on their laurels – they work to keep things taught ‘n’ toned. Far from being some kind of booty augmentation, the Brazilian Butt Lift is a workout now with a global following. It was created by Leandro ‘The Buttmaster’ Carvalho, who combines Brazilian dance and body sculpting moves to help followers lift their bums without bulking their thighs. My DVD’s on order.

Brazilian body shaping massage The girls here don’t want to be bony, they want to be buff. Not only are they fitness obsessed but they invest in weekly treatments to help hone their physiques. Circulation-boosting and cellulite-banishing massage help to detox the system thereby reducing water retention and granting glowing skin. It’s a way of life and for the body and stress-soothing benefits of massage I can see why they subscribe.

Brazilian blowdry The demand for super-smooth, silky locks lead to savvy stylists in Brazil formulating the revolutionary hair treatment, the Brazilian Blowdry. Hair is infused with keratin, a protein naturally found in skin, hair and nails, which when sealed in banishes frizz and makes hair straighter, cutting down styling time for the following three months. The trend has taken off in salons around the world, with many of us lusting after the luscious locks of the Brazilians.

Brazilian plantlife With the Amazon covering over half of Brazil, the land is ripe with plants offering potent potential for products. Their biggest selling beauty brand, Natura, uses unique natural ingredients in an ecologically responsible way. Gems like crabwood or black cherry are used in skincare that hydrates for up to 30 hours and Brazilian nut features as nutrition for the hair. Recently some global super brands have wanted a piece of the action and have responsibly sourced ingredients from Brazil for new collections. Kiehl’s launched Acai Damage-Repairing Skincare, their first Ecocert Certified Organic and 100% natural line, whilst MAC sourced some semi precious stones and baked them into their Mineralize formula to create the dazzling Semi Precious colour collection, and Aveda features pigment from Urukum seeds in its natural makeup line, Uruku.

I feel like I’m a failure because my government is funnier than me! #EndSARS #ENDBADGOVERNANCE #EndPoliceBrutalityinNigera

A lady saw his Tweet and in her response accused him of never using the various opportunities he has had to speak truth to the Nigerian government but rather saw them as an opportunity to cash out.

”Funny u said? U are a massive failure because the government on different occasions gave u a big platform to talk, all u did was to entertain them & cash out”

Bovi spotted her comment and wasted no time to reply here

”Check my records. Watch my videos. I may be too sleek for you so find a learned family member to explain my materials to you. Then see a shrink to deal with your blind bitterness because when you can’t poison others anymore, you might slit your throat.”
