Australia welcomed its first transgender TV host, Andrew Guy, after he won a contest to be a guest panelist on the show, The Sydney Morning Herald reports.
Andrew, who was born Anna, says he remembers asking his mom at a very young age, “If you want to become a boy, is there anything you can do about it?” and his mother told him he could get an operation. He says he wanted to do that immediately, but she told him to wait. He’s now been living as Andrew for five years and is “loving it.”
Guy praises other parents out there who are supporting their transgender children from an early age, saying that showing them that kind of support early on spares them “some issues later on in life that you have to deal with.” He also commended the TV show he’s guest hosting on, The Project, for their “commitment to diversity” telling them, “You’ve just broken a new paradigm.”
