Concealing is tricky at the best of times, not least during the warm weather when your attempt at going undercover slides off before 11am. There are easy ways to make your under-eye concealer go the distance, though. Try these easy tips to make the bag-brightening last longer.

1. Prime with highlighter

As with all makeup, layering leads to longevity. After using your eye cream, which will smooth out the skin ready for makeup, prime your dark shadows for concealing with a highlighter. We like the MAC Prep + Prime Highlighter, especially for eyes.

2. Choose the perfect consistency

Summer calls for a light coverage concealer as humidity and heat can cause cakiness. Not cool. So, we recommend a creamy consistency like the Urban Decay Naked Weightless Complete Coverage Concealer, perfect for the delicate eye area as well as on blemishes. Apply it in a ‘v’ shape under your eyes and blend it in using a concealer brush or flat eye shadow brush.

3. Set your concealer

Always perform The Powder Trick. While a makeup setting sprays is effective to lock your base in place, you don’t want to overload the eye area with chemicals and powdering is just as effective. Make sure you use a translucent powder – pressed or loose – as this isn’t about packing pigment, just preventing slip. Simply apply it with a small fluffy brush so you can get right into the corners.

4. If you absolutely need touch-up7

If you sandwich your concealer with highlighter and powder you shouldn’t need touch-ups, but if you do then don’t use a thick concealer on top but a light liquid like the moisturising Charlotte Tilbury The Retoucher Conceal & Treat Stick. Apply it straight from the pen and pat in with your pinkie to build coverage. It delivers an instant eye-lift.
